How To Make a Mini-USB To 2-ends Auxiliary Audio Cable

From Guides

There is one method in guides section, but here I have a simpler method with less risk and more speed, as you need not solder the items (its optional to you), unlike in the previous method (it was compulsory). See it Here: http://modmymoto.com/wiki/index.php/Reference_Change_2pt5mm_mic_jack_to_3pt5mm

A) You will need the following…

1) Auxiliary cable with one male connector end and other end in female connector.

2) A Motorola mini-USB Standard headset.

3) Cutter, a pair of scissors, etc.

4) Insulating cello tape (like the one used for wiring work), preferably black.

5) Your 1 hour of concentration.

B) Following things are optional…

1) Soldering apparatus2) This Guide for other method:

C) Procedure part I –

1) Take the Motorola mini-USB standard headset, and chip off both of the earphones part carefully with scissors keeping equal and sufficient amount of wire on both cut-out parts. (you will need the earphones later in the procedure…). Keep all parts aside.2) Now take the Auxiliary sound cord and chip it off too in center. Keep both ends aside too.3) Check you have four ends now with you.(i) Female connector Image:Female.jpg

(ii) Motorola mini-USB only end including the central button part.

(iii) 2 Motorola standard headset earphones with cut-out wires.

4) Take out all inner wires and separate them out like shown above…

D) Procedure part II –

1) Now its time to make the connections.

Connect SAME COLOURS TOGETHER, as shown in fig.

NOTE THAT THE BLUE WIRES ARE THOSE WHICH RUN PARALLEL TO INSULATED ONES DIRECTLY INSIDE THE OUTER COVER. (THESE ARE REFFERED AS “STRANDED WIRES” IN MANY CONTEXTS)

Also, all RED wires are of same polarity and so are all GREEN (Doesn’t matter which polarity).

3) If you want, optionally, tin each connection by soldering process, for making connections firm.

4) Seal off EACH connection SEPARATELY with insulation tape.

5) Now it is time to checkif you have done all this correctly.

(i) Connect mini-USB to port on your handset. (Don’t be afraid, nothing will happen to your handset*)

(ii) Connect some standard iPod earphones in the female connection end.

(iii) Check that you get sound in all four earphones in good quality by playing some music on phone.

(iv) If you are failing to get sound, move the joints we made in 1) a little by your hands (while continuing to play music and listen), and see if you get it, open and seal the loose joint which is making all the trouble. Otherwise open the insulation tapes one-by-one and check again.

(v) If you are getting the sound perfectly, then just move on.

6) When you have finished checking, make a bunch of all joints which you have sealed already and again seal them together by putting on the same tape around.

Use black one for preserving its look.

7) Check once again for sound, and if it does come in good quality, you’re done!!

E) How To Use:

You can use this “personal accessory” in following 3 ways:

1)As a speaker cable -- Connect mini-USB end to phone, connect a speaker cable to female connector, and you can listen now the music on a good speaker.

2)As 4-ear earphones!! You retain your original pair of earphones, and can add another one at the open end to get 4-ear headsets!!

3)As a NORMAL Motorola HEADSET TOO…! Good news, you can use it in normal way as regular earphones, without any problems…

F) Got any queries?? PM me!!
